2025 NABH Annual Meeting Starts Monday!
We’re pleased to devote this week’s edition of CEO Update to details about the 2025 Annual Meeting that starts Monday, May 12 in Washington, D.C.
This year’s Annual Meeting focuses on Behavioral Health is Everyone’s Concern: Constant Care, Changing Times, and our presenters will explore the federal government’s behavioral health strategy, the connection between behavioral health and chronic conditions, practical ways to improve your workforce, how states are advancing behavioral health, the current telehealth landscape, NABH’s new initiatives, and more.

Be Sure to Access the 2025 NABH Annual Meeting Mobile App
Again this year, attendees will have access to all Annual Meeting programming and materials through NABH’s web-based app.
Early Monday, NABH will send all attendees an Annual Meeting alert with a link to the app that includes information about sessions, speakers, meeting room locations, registrants, exhibitors and sponsors, Hill Day resources, and more. Attendees can also access the link through a QR code near the Registration Desk at the Annual Meeting.

It’s not too late to register for Hill Day 2025 on Wednesday, May 14 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. ET.
As always, Hill Day is an excellent opportunity for NABH members to meet personally with Members of Congress and their staff to share our association’s advocacy priorities.

CMS Deputy Chief Medical Officer Shari Ling, M.D. to Kick Off 2025 Annual Meeting on Monday
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Deputy Chief Medical Officer Shari M. Ling, M.D. will kick off this year’s Annual Meeting on Monday, May 12.
Dr. Ling serves in the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, where she is responsible for assisting the agency’s chief medical officer to pursue higher quality healthcare, healthier populations, and lower cost through quality improvement. Dr. Ling’s long-standing focus has been to achieve meaningful health outcomes through delivery of high quality, beneficiary-centered care across all care settings, with a special interest in the care of persons with multiple chronic conditions and functional limitations and reducing health disparities.
At the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS), Dr. Ling represents CMS on the HHS Multiple Chronic Conditions Workgroup and serves as the clinical sub-group lead for the HHS National Alzheimer’s Project Act.
At the Annual Meeting, Dr. Ling will discuss the connection between behavioral health within the context of preventive care and chronic conditions. Please help us welcome her in the Salamander Washington, DC’s Grand Ballroom on May 12 at 3 p.m. ET.
Learn About NABH’s New Project to Sponsor a Behavioral Health Technician Apprenticeship
Immediately following Dr. Ling’s presentation at 3:45 p.m., NABH Immediate Past Board Chair Frank A. Ghinassi, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., president and CEO of Rutgers Health University Behavioral Health Care and senior vice president of the Behavioral Health and Addictions Service Line at RWJBarnabas Health, will moderate a panel discussion about NABH’s new project to sponsor a behavioral health technician Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) with the U.S. Labor Department (DOL).
The RAP panel will feature 2025 NABH Board Chair Jim Shaheen, CEO of New Season/Colonial Management Group; John Pallasch, former assistant secretary for employment and training at DOL and founder and CEO of workforce consultancy One Workforce Solutions; and independent consultant Kristen Weeden, who began her career as a child protective case worker. The panelists will explain this new program, how your system will benefit from it, and ways you can help NABH in this process.
Learn How to Strengthen Supervisor Competencies with Yale Behavioral Health’s Scott Migdole
Day 2 of the Annual Meeting will start on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 a.m. with Yale Behavioral Health & Yale Program on Supervision COO Scott Migdole, M.S.W., LCSW, who will share Yale’s model for strengthening supervisor competencies and shaping supervision practice in health and human service organizations, including hospitals. Migdole’s presentation will cover topics such as the basics of a supervision model, phases and functions of supervision, and managing from the middle.
Explore Behavioral Healthcare Advancements and Challenges in the States with the National Academy for State Health Policy’s Hemi Tewarson
Immediately following Migdole’s presentation, NABH Vice President of Policy Dan Schwartz will engage in a fireside chat with Hemi Tewarson, J.D., M.P.H., executive director at the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP). They’ll discuss how NASHP’s work can help NABH members, the effects of potential Medicaid cuts on states, behavioral healthcare advancements at the state level, how states are addressing the nation’s ongoing opioid crisis, the recent shift in states’ top behavioral health priority away from the opioid crisis to mental health, and more.
Examine Today’s Telemedicine & Telehealth Landscape with the American Telemedicine Association’s Kyle Zebley
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the American Telemedicine Association’s Kyle Zebley will offer a presentation that will highlight the present telehealth landscape, the congressional perspective on telehealth services, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and remote prescribing of controlled substances, Medicare telehealth flexibilities, and more.

After Zebley’s presentation, NABH Vice President of Government Relations Andrew Dodson and Director of Government Relations Emily Wilkins will conclude Tuesday’s presentations with a discussion about NABH’s new advocacy tool SparkInfluence and help members prepare for Hill Day on Wednesday, May 14.
